I had a wonderful experience at Gasthaus Schwand in Engelberg, Switzerland. Although it was quite expensive, the stay was excellent. The hotel is definitely old, but it is functional, clean, and well-maintained. The shared bathroom, clearly mentioned in the description when we booked, was not a problem at all. It was extremely clean, and even though all the other rooms on our floor were booked, we never had to wait to use it. The view from our hotel room window was amazing, offering a breathtaking panorama of the mountains. We appreciated the free parking. Since we were staying for only one night, we decided to leave our luggage on the roof of our car. The location felt very safe, and nothing was stolen. The WiFi was surprisingly good, especially considering the mountainous location, with speeds around 50 mbps+. The breakfast was simple yet delicious, featuring bread with chocolate and jam. One thing to be aware of is that they don’t allow food in the hotel rooms. Overall, it was a very good stay. Service: 5

nice view. the room uses woody floor so it was actually sensitive toward steps sounds. however, unfortunately, we felt the owner wasnt being so nice during our stay. we simply ask unharmful questions such as is there any tv in the living room to watch soccer - the answer was a bit cynical. the moment we were about to check out, out of the blue she asked us (in a accusing manner) if we took one of their tools and turned out someone else did it overall the hospitality was a bit upsetting - cant help to think that maybe we were the only southeast asian at that time hence this kind of treatment. but maybe thats just me, hopefully. anyway, there are a lot of guest houses with similar view so maybe you wanna check the others Update to the reply from the owner: thanks for taking the input seriously. to clarify to your feedback, no we did not cook anything. yes we intended to at first and brought the tools, but after our discussion, we fully understood and adhere to the rules. we already brought ready-to-eat food, so we ate in our own plates with our cutleries as well as we did not recall any ban to bring food and eat. Upon our check out, we ensured no food crumbs left, no stains left, all trashes are in the trash bin — so I really was not sure which extremely dirty room you were referring to. Too bad I did not take some photos to proof my point, but please accept our apologies if we did not clean the room as clean as you wanted to, we thought it’d be acceptable if we at least did the bare minimum of cleaning the room as we could. Note for the future, maybe we should clean the room to be extremely clean - as clean as the first time we checked in, noted! Anyways, glad to know we received this kind of treatment nevertheless our race & nationality. That said, even more reason for me to keep the ratings. I also think this treatment is unfair and offensive, so let’s agree to disagree. Thanks! Service: 1

Dear Firdha Atikah Rafliyanti Thanks for your review. We are aware of the problem with wooden floors. A renovation is being planned! Subject to simple questions: After 45 minutes of discussing with you that you were not allowed to cook or prepare food in the room and that our kitchen was already closed, it was already 10.30pm. The additional cleaning the next day really disappointed us because, despite the ban, you prepared food and made the room extremely dirty! At 10:30pm they wanted to watch TV in the restaurant. At 10:00 pm we closed for the night and the restaurant was already closed. Therefore, unfortunately this was no longer possible. We kindly informed you of this. We just wanted to make sure that you didn't accidentally take the tool you mentioned with you. Because these often disappear and cost us a lot of money. As you can read in all of our reviews on booking.com and Google reviews (owners from June 1st, 2022), we value and maintain hospitality very highly. And that applies to all nationalities. The additional cleaning in your room because you cooked despite the ban was also very annoying and disappointing for us. We think it's unfair that you rate us negatively. They didn't follow our clear house rules and all we had to do was correct them! Nevertheless, we take your criticism seriously and discuss it with our team.
