Kind, courteous, low prices. Clean. the 'Casa della Compagnia', which hosts the Acli club, celebrated its 102nd anniversary with the change of management. From January 1st the new managers are the spouses Giulietta and Stefano Antonioli, Sangiovannesi natives, who live 50 meters from the restaurant. Located next to the Renzi Museum, full of important and precious historical artefacts, it is the only meeting place in the village of San Giovanni in Galilea. The center and the entire hamlet in the immediate post-war period had almost a thousand inhabitants, today there are around 250 of whom 60-70 are in the historic centre. Until 1983 in San Giovanni in Galilea there were three taverns, the year in which they closed their doors due to lack of customers and too much bureaucracy. The 'Casa della Compagnia' was born in 1914 in a room adjacent to the one where it is located today. 'Originally it was not a tavern or even a club - says Stefano Antonioli, president of the Casa della Compagnia - It was founded with the aim of helping the most needy people, those who had been struck by particular disasters, had had their boats burned, the drought which destroyed the crops, the Uso river overflowing, the supplies insufficient to feed everyone. The families and in any case the inhabitants of San Giovanni in Galilea who were included in the list of those in need, could obtain basic necessities, mainly wheat, in the warehouses of the 'Casa della Compagnia'. The House was closed before the war following a law abolishing these bodies. The building was destroyed by bombing, but the Casa della Compagnia has always remained in the minds and hearts of the San Giovannese people. By the will of a group of them it was reborn in 1983 into a 'Simple Company', with related statute.
