While visiting Basel Switzerland for the Christmas Market we recently stopped in this Carl’s Jr for a quick lunch. Being from So Calif I was curious to see how it compared .. the service was excellent , the food was great.. the atmosphere in the restaurant brought us right back to Southern California Great place for a quick bite! Having recently heard about "Carl's Jr" and read about it's important historical role in the development of the american fast-food culture, i was intrigued to go and visit the new store in the middle of Basel. (The book 'Fast Food Nation' is an insightful read..!). The location is great. Big, bright, clean and spacious and with a view of the river Rhine if you look hard enough from upstairs! The restaurant had only opened this summer and due to the relative unfamiliar brand name in this area it was quite quiet when we were there. Apparently it's the 3rd store in Switzerland after Schaffhausen and Winterthur and you can see the effort that went into the decoration and the setup in order to capitalise on the current burger boom. There is genuinely a lot of competition in good burger restaurants in Basel. The new Carl's Jr can be added to this list in terms of great tasting burgers and may be able to profit from its super location. With such a saturated market however, it remains to be seen if it can form a regular customer base and make a profitable establishment long-term. So good! It's a nice change from the usual BK and McD's. It has a cute and clean atmosphere and all the ice you want. Like a little bit of California! Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
