Grazie
A nice, little adventure on a cold december day, finding the Castle of Torrechiara through the deep fog that covered the whole region of Parma. The castle was definitely worth a visit, the paintings on the walls preserved the vivid colours, despite the hundreds of years that passed since the painter used his magic brush on them. The cherry on top of the cake was discovering this nice, little, cosy place right next to the castle, called Cantina del Borgo. The owner (Giuseppe Vicari) and his wife were decorating their little wine-exhibition in front of the shop for Christmas and welcomed me with a jolly: " Dove avete lasciato il sole?" ( "Where have you left the sun?") After this I got to taste some of the wines he produces himself. His family has done this for the last fifty years. Mind you, the vinyards are just below the castle. On a nice, lovely day, this the view you get from the top of castle... Not today!Never mind! I had a lovely time chatting with mister Giuseppe and tasting the wines (dry, sweet, old, new, bubbly, not bubbly... hehe! got a bit dizzy and decided I go for the dry ones...). 4 fine bottles ready to take their way straight to Norway and make fine Christmas presents! (Oops, one bottle down, sacrificed this evening in the honour of a delicious seafood pasta!!!) In other words, I loved the place, I loved the wine, and "I'll be back!" on a sunny day, to make sure I'll get both the good taste of Giuseppe's wine and the lovely view over the valley of Parma.
