On our way to Split, we stopped at Gastro kutak Jadro for dinner, and it ended up being one of the highlights of our trip. We arrived as a group of 27 people, which is probably every restaurant’s version of an unexpected fitness challenge, yet we were welcomed with genuine warmth and big smiles from the staff. The service was remarkably organised, friendly, and patient throughout the evening. The food was excellent. Some of us ordered ćevapi (the traditional grilled meat fingers served in warm flatbread), others chose schnitzels, while several went for the truffle pasta. Everyone left happy. My personal obsession was the somun, the traditional Balkan flatbread that wrapped around the ćevapi. It was warm, soft, slightly chewy, and absolutely perfect. One of those simple things that somehow becomes unforgettable. I also tried a local beer, while the wine service was a delightful surprise. The wine was poured directly from a wooden barrel and served in glass jars, which added a wonderfully rustic and authentic touch to the experience. The setting is beautiful, located in the green countryside on the outskirts of Split, beside the source of the Jadro River. The atmosphere feels peaceful and far removed from the busy tourist areas. Behind the restaurant are the remains of historic structures connected to the ancient area of Solin (Roman Salona), which adds another layer of character and history to the location. If you are looking for delicious local food, generous hospitality, and a unique setting surrounded by nature and history, I highly recommend this place.
