The ancient Via dei Mille winds through the history of the city of Vittoria told by the numerous noble palaces that overlook the street. The late nineteenth-century and Art Nouveau facades retain, despite the neglect and the passage of time, the charm and architectural features that still make them unique today and continue to preserve a Leopard atmosphere contaminated by a pinch of modernity. The watershed between the palaces and Art Nouveau houses built later is the Nannino Terranova clearing with the beautiful staircase dating back to 1897 in the background and in its center the picturesque and slightly mismatched tables of the Cala Rittu, a place of rest with a menu with an entirely Sicilian flavour. Every time I return home to my Sicily, I can't help but go there and even if there is the possibility of taking a table inside the Art Nouveau house transformed into a gastropub, I prefer to sit outside, enjoy the magic, the sounds and scents of the street while I choose from the menu which delicacy to taste and which of the good wines offered to accompany it. The pizza is delicious. Cocktails done well. The welcoming staff is always ready to listen to your requests and advise you. The host spends a lot of his time in the kitchen but it is not uncommon to see him going around the tables and greeting his guests. Cala Rittu is one of those unusual and informal places placed outside of time where you rediscover the local flavors of good cuisine and can spend peaceful and carefree moments alone or in company.
