I visited Barra later in the evening when I was after something fairly light, and I always like to try sushi when I visit a new country. Even on a weekday night the restaurant was quite busy, so that felt like a good sign. Luckily, I was still able to get a spot. I started with a homemade yuzu soda, which was really refreshing. I also had the fish soup, which was absolutely delicious and a really strong start to the meal. After that, I had a selection of sushi including rolls and sashimi. The food itself was genuinely very good, the sashimi in particular was excellent, with generous, thick cuts of salmon and tuna. There was also a third fish, which turned out to be sea bream, although the waitress had to ask the chef because she wasn’t sure. I’m also fairly sure I ordered the wagyu roll bites, though what arrived didn’t really seem like that. I was seated at the bar, so I could watch the chefs preparing everything, which was really nice and gave a good sense of the care going into the food. The only downside for me was the service: the waitress came across as a little clipped and cold at first, and there seemed to be a bit of a disconnect between front-of-house and the chefs. Overall, it’s a little expensive, but the sushi itself was very good quality and definitely worth trying if you’re in the mood for a strong sushi spot.
