A Filipino-inspired burger experience that genuinely impressed us! Barkada Burger Bar in Schaffhausen, Switzerland immediately caught our attention because, as Filipinos, the name naturally stood out. What we found was more than just a burger restaurant — it was a cozy place with creative food, excellent service, and a genuinely welcoming team. A special mention to Juls, who was incredibly accommodating and knowledgeable about the menu. She patiently answered all our questions, explained the ingredients, and gave us great recommendations. You can immediately tell that she knows and believes in the food she serves. We also met Marc Dylan (MD), and we later learned that it was actually his first day working at Barkada. Despite the restaurant getting busy, he handled himself remarkably well, quickly adapting to the pace and assisting customers with a calm and friendly attitude. You honestly would not have guessed it was his first day! Eric Villareal, the owner, was also very hands-on, personally assisting customers and making sure everything was running smoothly. As someone who travels frequently and visits restaurants in different places, I really appreciate seeing an owner who is genuinely present and involved. Now, the food! I ordered the Spicy Chicken Adobo OG with Raclette Fries, while my friend had the Raclette “C” Chnobli and Fried Cauliflower Nuggets. I even asked for my burger to be cut in half because I thought I might not finish it. I ended up eating the entire burger. I am not usually a burger person, but the Spicy Chicken Adobo OG was fantastic. The Filipino-inspired adobo flavour made it completely different from the usual burgers, and paired with the Raclette Fries and Lemon Tea, it was an excellent combination. The Fried Cauliflower Nuggets were another surprise. I had never tried them before, but they were delicious — flavourful, satisfying, and light enough that I immediately thought about trying to make them at home. And a big salute to the chefs and kitchen team behind the scenes. Thank you for putting so much care into our food and making every dish we ordered so delicious. The quality was definitely noticed and appreciated. The restaurant is cozy, reasonably priced, and full of character, but what really makes Barkada stand out is the people behind it. Juls, MD, Eric, and the kitchen team all contributed to making our experience memorable. After travelling and dining in many different places, I have learned that the restaurants I remember most are not necessarily the fanciest ones — they are the ones with great food, genuine hospitality, and people who take pride in what they do.
