We had a most pleasant and unhurried lunch in the shady garden of the Bären. The cooking here is precise and at a high level, as you would expect from a member of the illustrious JRE organization. The menu wide ranging. We chose from the offerings of the "Talent and Passion" menu and enjoyed the tuna with melon and Loup de Mer appetizers and especially the perfectly prepared loin of veal, accompanied by chanterelle mushrooms and summer vegetables. The cheese course was generous and varied, the panna cotta dessert light and delicious (the fluffy panna cotta was different from the usual preparation). We appreciated very much that the restaurant does not force everyone at the table to take the menu, a really annoying habit of many upscale places that offer no accommodation to guests (one person in our party was slightly unwell and unable to eat the menu). One specialty of the restaurant is fresh caught rainbow trout, prepared in various ways. An excellent choice for lovers of that delicate fish. The wine list has many good selections from various Swiss wine regions. As we always drink "local," we enjoyed a fine pinot noir from the nearby Bieler See region. The service is attentive, accommodating, and kind.

Once again, we felt very comfortable and welcome from the first moment with the Thommen family in Bären Utzenstorf. You almost feel at home as soon as you open the front door. The employees are always very attentive and courteous. The rooms invite you to linger and Martin's kitchen is a delight. The wine list is also impressive. Always worth a visit. Keep it up!!!!!
