The Atmosphere Conveniently located right by the stunning waters of the Godey reservoir, the Auberge de Godey is the perfect, unpretentious stop to refuel after a day of fishing or hiking the trails. It features a wonderfully relaxed, traditional alpine alpine-buvette atmosphere where the focus is entirely on warm hospitality and hearty, comforting local food. The Food The kitchen serves up massive, incredibly generous portions that perfectly match the rugged mountain setting: The Loaded Alpine Salad: This is anything but a light starter. It is a spectacular, towering plate packed with fresh ingredients. Crisp greens, corn, and shredded carrots are layered beneath boiled eggs, sweet slices of melon and tomato, and a truly generous mountain of crispy, savory bacon bits and golden croutons. To top it all off, it is beautifully ringed with delicate rosettes of premium cured ham. It is incredibly fresh, colorful, and a meal all on its own. The Traditional Croûte au Fromage: A classic done absolutely right. This rich, satisfying dish features thick slices of bread soaked in white wine, completely blanketed in a thick, golden layer of melted local cheese that has been baked to perfection. Topped with a beautifully fried egg with a perfectly runny yolk, and garnished with traditional cornichons and pickled pearl onions, it is the ultimate alpine comfort food—rich, savory, and deeply satisfying. Final Verdict If you are looking for authentic Valaisan hospitality and plates that ensure you absolutely won't leave hungry, the Auberge de Godey is a must-visit. Between the incredibly generous salads and the perfectly baked croûte, it offers excellent value, comforting flavors, and the perfect pitstop right in the heart of the valley's natural beauty.

We arrived on a sunny October Saturday at 11:30 a.m., but without a reservation. The restaurant was empty, but we were told it was fully reserved. The lady in charge could not seat us temporarily at any table, even if we told her we would eat fast. We tried to explain to her that we had brought no food - we had a five-year old child with us - but this was no concern to her. All she could offer was an overpriced charcuterie plate for us to eat outside in the cold, because it was unthinkable for `Madame' to make any reasonable arrangement to accommodate us. Execrable lack of any hospitality. Thankfully the staff at the Refuge showed a bit more empathy, despite also being fully reserved.
