After hearing Au Vieux Navire was THE place to have dinner overlooking Lac Leman, we arrived excited and left feeling rather ambivalent about our whole experience and won’t be going back. Initially we were pleased because we were told unlike other reservations, we would not have a time limit to dine. Upon arrival however, staff told us our 6PM table on the terrace would not be ready for 45 minutes. So we bought some wine and waited. By the time we were seated the entire terrace was full and it had been a full hour since we arrived. We settled on the prix fixe menu and sampled the filets de perche and filet mignon de boeuf, both of which were enjoyable. We had dismissed the initial delay as an oversight since the food was good, but when we followed the waiter’s recommendation and ordered dessert (one hour after sitting down), we were informed the dish would take too long to prepare for the time limit on our table. Staff informed us that in order to have dessert we could move inside their empty dining room to continue. Disappointed, but wanting to finish our meal on a high note, we went inside and enjoyed a decent dessert. We left feeling as if the restaurant has been riding on an outdated reputation. There are other options in the area nearby with comparable food, far better service, and a much more positive experience. Food: 3 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 3 Service: Dine in Meal type: Dinner
